St. Patrick's day in lockdown
It is already the anniversary of one year since the first lockdown in Germany during the pandemic. I certainly had no idea how long it was going to last! Recently Facebook reminded me of a post I shared a few years ago. It was a collage of how I celebrated St. Patrick's day in Germany over the years. What struck me now looking at the pictures was just how sociable a day it is.
Every picture shows me and my friends having fun. Last year I had planned to throw a little Paddy's day party at my house but that had to be cancelled due to the pandemic. This year we won't be able to meet up with anybody either unfortunately.
However I still plan to make the most of it. I'll be cooking shepherd's pie for lunch and baking scones for dessert. Mini and myself are both wearing green. (The GerMann says his only green top is in the wash!). I read her a story about how St. Patrick banished the snakes from Ireland last night. My family and friends have been messaging me with photos of how they are celebrating the day.
Check out previous Paddy's days in Germany Happy St. Patrick's day everyone!

Happy St Patrick’s Day! It’s nice to read how you are celebrating. I was thinking today about why I enjoy this day. Often we would have Celtic musicians schedule tour dates around this time, so there we’d be concerts to go to for date night. In the past (not so much lately) I would go out to a pub with friends. In past years sometimes my stepdance group would be invited to perform somewhere. I associate the day with music and fun and springtime renewal.
ReplyDeleteNow most of that isn’t happening, but I’m still trying to get some food feels out of the day. Like you me and the girls are wearing green and I gave them green cookies this morning. No chance for dance performances but I might give my students a little demonstration today at school! Here’s hoping that soon we can enjoy more social activities as they are very much missed.
Those sound like lovely way to celebrate. Yes, let's hope that by next year everyone will be able to get together and celebrate with music and dance again!
DeleteEven though I have Irish roots, it's not something that is universally celebrated here. So I love seeing the photos of how it is celebrated in Germany.
ReplyDeleteThe photos on this post are actually from Ireland- I was just feeling a bit homesick!
DeleteGood memories! Belated Happy St. Patrick's Day. Photos and memories like this are what's also been carrying me through these uncertain days. Prost!
ReplyDeleteThanks! Yeah it helps to have things to celebrate so every day isn't just like groundhog day!
DeleteA nice shepards or cottage pie with a pint or three of Guinness would be lovely today.
ReplyDeletemm yes, that sounds perfect!
