A tea for everything #MicroblogMonday

*cough* *sniffle* *cough* I'm feeling rather the worse for wear at the moment. One by one I noticed more and more colleagues and friends come down with something or other and it finally got me too. I've a head cold and sore throat.

At least Germans have a tea for every possible ailment. I couldn't choose between "cough and bronchial" or "throat and neck", so I bought both. As a child our family cure for sore throats was always 'hot honey and orange' which consisted of boiled water, orange juice and naturally lots of honey! I've been drinking a mixtures of those and just trying to get plenty of rest. Hopefully in a few days it'll be gone. The worst is coughing at night and then not being able to sleep.

Unfortunately I also gave my cold to the GerMann so now we're both coughing and sniffing. We didn't have any big plans last weekend though so we were able to take it easy.

What's your go-to cold curing remedy?

  1. Well, I'm from the US, and along with Nestlé Chocolate chips I ask visitors to bring me a bottle of Vicks Nyquil. Tastes like shit (but no kidding, by now I actually like the flavor because I know what happens to me after I drink a shot), but knocks me out cold till the morning. I am just getting over a cold, and my last bottle expired in 2014. Still worked. The thing is, I believe the only thing that really works against a cold is sleep. Deep, cleansing sleep. Even if it's a somewhat drugged sleep. That stuff is gold.

  2. Lemon, honey and ginger in warm water is my medicine, Tumeric with a dash of salt and clarified butter (ghee) in hot milk was my grandmother's recipe - one of the best. Hope you feel better soon.
Dropping by from the MicroblogMonday linkup.

  3. Does lying on the floor and moaning count as a remedy? :-)

Hope you're feeling better. I'm big on peppermint tea. Though I'll have regular tea with honey when sick. And whine and moan.

  4. Lots and lots of Vitamin C and honey are my go-to remedies, along with Echinacea and Zinc (to help your immune system). Nyquil is also awesome, for the reasons Ami described. Hope you feel better soon!

    1. Thanks. Oh yeah I'd heard of Echinacea being good for the immune system.
