Acupuncture part two #MicroblogMonday

Despite a rather disastrous less than positive first acupuncture experience, I decided to go back. I figured that it makes sense to try it a few times and give it a proper chance before making my mind up one way or the other and I've since been to two more sessions.

It has gotten somewhat better, maybe because I've gotten used to it now and I find I'm able to relax a little more. That said, I still don't really get what the hype is about to be honest and I often feel like a pin cushion lying there covered in needles!

The last time I went the acupuncturist gave out to me because I haven't been going often enough which she says means it won't be effective. So I've decided for this month I will do it properly and try to go every week. And then I'll probably just quit in February. She also recommends I do Osteopathy, more alternative stuff. Not sure if I will though, it's expensive and even less evidence that it does anything.

I've also decided to cut down on dairy a little just to try that for a few weeks. So I now eat my porridge in the mornings with oat milk, and it's quite nice actually. It tastes weird in tea though so I stick to normal cow's milk for that!

  1. See, I've always thought everyone was lying to me when they promised you couldn't feel the pins. You just wrote that you feel like a pin cushion. That's my fear!

    1. Maybe I'm just more sensitive than most but I did find that some of the needles hurt going in, and then others I barely felt! Maybe it depends on whether it hits a nerve or not.

  2. I tried acupuncture eight or so times for digestive issues a little more than a year ago. I only felt one of the pins (same spot every time), but the sensation shot through my leg in a most uncomfortable way. It wasn't pain, really - just a really weird feeling. I think my stomach problem improved a little, but it didn't go away. I suspect one has to believe in it for acupuncture to be truly effective.

  3. Acupuncture is used for infertility and yes, I've tried it to enhance the IVF. No, it did not work for me the first time and I was really convinced it would work. It was too expensive for me to do it all again. Yes, there were pins where it was incredibly painful, so bad I cried and other times where it was really great. Like any course of treatment, it's best to commit 100% before giving the final verdict. If you're doing all this to improve your overall health, good for you for making the effort.

  4. Just the thought of being a pin cushion is a prickly feeling. Gosh, you are brave.

  5. I don't think I like the thought of being a human pin cushion!

The Germans really do like their alternative stuff.

  6. Yes I didn't particularly enjoy it it either and then started seriously doubting it was doing anything at all...and at 60 euro a pop it better work quickly or I'll save the money!

  7. It’s great that you are giving acupuncture another chance and plan to stick to the prescribed sessions, despite your misgivings from the first one. I’m sure that it’ll be better this time. Anyway, I hope you continue to indulge in this relaxing practice. Thanks for sharing!
